Sala Comacina is one of the most distinctive places on the western shore of Lake Como between Como and Menaggio In the last century this pretty little village was already considered to be an important holiday destination, as is demonstrated by the many villas scattered along the lakeside which were built as holiday homes for famous writers and wealthy families. Villa Rachele that belonged to the family of Cesare Beccaria is an example: it stands on the promontory and is very famous for the many literary figures that stayed here, among them Alessandro Manzoni.
